Towering outside of the Bochum train station, this 12 meters high sculpture consists of four trapezoidal plates that give the impression of being loosely balanced against each other.

Richard Serra chose corten steel as material, which adds the rusty patina look that acts as an aesthetic statement, as well as protection for the underlying material from weathering.

The material also creates a particular relationship to the location and the surrounding Ruhrgebiet as the center of the steel industry.

The sculpture has a narrow entrance for visitors. Entering inside the art piece reveals a surprise: a perfectly square section of the sky that is framed by the four vertical plates at the top of the sculpture.
